Pre-School Screening Information
Thank you for your interest in our Little BEES preschool program. Our community student and Preschool for All programs are full for the 2010-2011 school year. Our next screening dates of February 14, 2011 and May 6, 2011 will be to screen students for the 2011-2012 school year. All children need to be 3 years old at the time of the screening and appointments are required. Children will be evaluated in the area of language, hearing, vision and gross/fine motor coordination. If you are concerned about your child having slight delays in any of these areas, we encourage you to have your child screened. If you feel that your child shows significant delays in any of the above areas, please contact our office at 815-577-7315.
Below are the categories that determine the placement of your child based on the screening results:
Speech Only- These are the students that after a quick screening have been identified as needing a more in depth evaluation in speech and language. This does not mean that your child will automatically receive speech services. Many times after a more in depth evaluation, our speech pathologists find that the articulation and language skills are normal for your child’s development. Typically, the students that receive speech only assessments, are those whose parents are not interested in the Troy BEES program.
Community Students- This program is a 3 or 5 day a week, half day program in which parents/guardians are responsible for driving students to and from school. Three year old students attend 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday), and 4 year old students may attend either three or five days per week. This program is a tuition based program costing our families $150.00(3 day)/$200.00 (5 day) a month, plus a $103.00 registration fee, and a yearly $37.00 (3 day) / $50.00 (5 day) milk fee. This is an AM and PM program in which parents can choose which session they would like as spots are available. Students who have been recommended for further speech evaluations can also be a community student. Our school has limited spots available for this program so students who qualify are accepted based on the date of the request for screening. (First come, first serve basis) All students who qualify, but cannot get into the program because we are full, will be placed on a waiting list until a spot becomes available.
Pre-School For All- This program is a grant funded program through the State of Illinois. This program runs 5 days a week for a half day both AM and PM. Students in this program are bussed to and from school every day. There are no fees for this program as it is funded by the State of Illinois. Students in this program have to have three or more qualifying factors in order for them to be eligible. Some of these factors are: lower 25th percent on the concepts, language, or motor portion of the test, low income, children whoe primary language is not English, parents with special needs, born to teenage parents, premature birth, or severe behavioral concerns. These are just some of the factors. Students who are four years old have priority placement in this program. We only have 80 spots available for this program, so students who qualify, but cannot be in the program because we are full, are put on a waiting list in order of age and need. Please understand that because this is a grant funded program, our numbers and program could change if funding is not provided.
Early Childhood- Children that are performing two years below the average child their age, will be referred for a more in depth evaluation with a team of professionals who will develop with the parent and teacher with specific learning goals for that child if they qualify. Students who qualify will be placed in our program and will have a yearly $103.00 registration fee as well as a $50.00 a year milk fee. This program runs five days a week for half a day. Students in this program are bussed to and from school every day. Students who qualify for Early Childhood will be placed in a blended program or a smaller self contained classroom depending on the severity of the needs of the child.
If you have any questions, please contact Darlene Biddle (Little BEES Secretary) at 815-577-7315 or Shannon Hamm (Assistant Principal) at 815-577-7314
